Worsened battery performance after upgrading their 3G/3GS iPhones to iOS4? “Nope”

Many people have reported worsened battery performance after upgrading their 3G/3GS iPhones to iOS4 (here’s an article from PC World).

Yesterday, Emails From Steve Jobs.com reader Jarle sent the following e-mail to Steve Jobs:

Any reason battery performance on a 3GS running iOS4 should be worse than it was running OS3?

His reply came six minutes later:

Nope.

The story was published by the Norwegian newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad on July 6.

He’s talking nonsense, my 3G iPod Touch and friends with iPhone 3G’s have noticed significant performance degradation and poor stability all-round on the OS, not just the battery.

Maybe he’s secretly admitting that yes, the battery life is significantly worse (I can barely get ten hours of standby time out of my 3G now), but is saying that there’s no real reason. It can’t be Apple’s fault. Maybe you’re holding it wrong.
